Media neglects to bow down to new censorship attempt, puts up resistance

It seems that further attempts make to curtail the media’s independence to guarantee that only complimentary report receives coverage. On Wednesday, in a report, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority cautioned the communication channels upon communicating on settlements arising out of the cabinet conferences to avoid the spread of “bogus or speculative report.”

Nevertheless, the media has shown the courage to remain true to its principles and stand towards attempts to silence its voice. The Association of News Directors and Electronic Media Editors (Aemend) objected to these limitations under the guise of ‘information on how cabinet conferences require to announce.

The Association of News Directors and Electronic Media Editors (Aemend) has called upon the reporters’ unions and media companies to resist the latest attempt to censor content and reduce the media’s independence.

The association’s president Azhar Abbas declared that Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) was enhancing a `censorship tool’ rather than appearing as a regulator.

Mr. Azhar Abbas said, “Such actions to curb media independence are proceeding Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority controversial,.”
