HOW TO PRAY EID SALAH: ‘TRAINING’ TIPS

Eid celebrations that include prayer mark major events for Muslims. The Eid celebration lasts three days, and Muslims often join congregational prayers on the first day.

How to know the time and how to pray

Eid Salah is performed just before sunrise on the first day of Eid. However, Muslims are encouraged to perform their prayer at least once in Jama’ah with their local Muslim community.

How to perform Eid prayer

Make sure the first thing you do on a new day is to pray.

  • About the ritual of ghusl (often abbreviated as ghusl)
  • It’s sunnah to eat something before going out to prayer. The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) ate dates when he was fasting.
  • Muslims are encouraged to dress in their most suitable clothes and body odor for a day of celebration in honor of Mawlid al-Nabi.

  • Give your opening takbeer (‘Allahu Akbar’) with the imam.

  • Listen to the imam recite Surah al-Fatihah and an additional surah.
  • Say “Allahu Akbar” as you bow, and join in with prayers like a normal person.
  • In the second rakah, you should listen to the imam recite Surah al-Fatihah and an extra surah.
  • Perform 3 additional takbeer with the imam and a final takbeer before ruku. The hands are brought to the sides before the ruku repeat.
  • Say ‘Allahu Akbar’ while moving down with the imam and complete ritual prayer as usual.

*Please note: Hanafi recitation is the name of this prayer. This summarizes how to observe Eid if you’re following the Hanafi law of performing prayer. If the imam recites more takbeer, please follow the imam.
